A Spring Water Mountain Retreat: Eldorado Pool

Just minutes from Boulder, the Eldorado Pool is a destination that should not be overlooked. A gateway to the stunning Eldorado Canyon State Park, visitors can take in views of towering peaks and steep cliffs while chilling poolside. After a day of hiking or conquering nearby gnarling peaks, drop into the pool’s crystal clear waters to soothe any aching muscles and take in the fresh mountain air.
Eldorado Springs Pool and Resort has been the key feature to this small mountain community for over 100 years. Opened in 1905, visitors reached the resort by horse or train to catch a bit of relief from the hustle and bustle of the city. Many notable figures have taken the plunge into the pool’s refreshing waters, including legendary funny-man W.C. Fields and honeymooners Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower. Quite a well-to-do destination for it’s time, Eldorado Pool and Resort has gone through a number of renovations through the last century. Although it is no longer home to the largest swimming pool in the country, the pool continues to offer people a wonderful retreat from the summer’s heat.
Described as the “Coney Island of the West”, enter Eldorado Springs through the classic turn-style gated entrance. Hop into the pool and you’ll instantly noticed the temperature and quality of the water. The pool is directly fed by local spring water, cool glacial mountain water freshly melted by the sun overhead. The pool’s water is the same used for Eldorado Springs artisan bottled water, although it is not advised to go around drinking Eldorado Pool’s water, or any other pool water for that matter! After a nice swim chill-out on the upper level bathing deck or take a wild ride down the classic aluminum slide. With a little something for everyone, Eldorado Pool in Eldorado Springs is a great place to pass the dog days of summer.

Check out a nearby hiking trail as well.

Getting There: (From Denver)  Take the Boulder-Denver Turnpike (US highway 36) to highway 170. Go West on highway 170 to Eldorado Springs. The resort is located at the right side of the canyon, just before the entrance of Eldorado Canyon State Park.

This is a very fine addition to one of Colorado’s most beautiful trails: Eldorado Canyon.
