DONE!

Running events keep breaking bounds. Races have evolved to include bands, obstacle courses, mud pits and now even splashes of vibrant color. The Color Run will dash through Denver May 26th and is nearly sold out! The 5k race has already hit up several cities in it’s inaugural year and could run through up to 40 cities by 2012’s end.
Here’s why it stands out- At every 1 km mark runners pass through a color zone and are splashed with a different shade of a powdery substance. Race founder Travis Snyder says, “You basically Tye Dye a shirt while wearing it.” The 1960’s tradition is revived to include yellow, green, purple and pink magic clouds of dust. “Our goal is to show people that running can be fun again,” says Snyder
The after party is cued at the finish line with bands, food and of course more color.
Here are some tips for the race. Make sure to wear a white shirt to soak up the most colors! Also, hit the sides of color zones for more color and run through the middle for less. Remember, the race is for everyone! You don’t need to be a seasoned athlete- Run, roll, high-knee, skip or walk your way through the course.
The Color Run selects a different charity at each city. Proceeds out of Denver benefit the Children’s Hospital.

****Intrigued by the Color Run? There is even more coming from Human Movement Management June 8-10 for the Lyons Outdoor Games!  The event has evolved from an excuse for paddling buddies from around the country to come together for a day of play in the famed Lyons Whitewater Park. If kayaking isn’t your outdoor choice don’t count yourself out. There is also fly fishing, dog events, the burning can beer festival and burning man 5k. Outdoor events will be jamming all weekend long that include beer, music and of course some serious fun!

This has been on my list of things to do before I die since I first read about it. Not only does it look like an amazingly fun thing to do but it supports an amazing cause as well. 🙂

My daughter and I did the Rock n Roll half in Denver in October. We hit a very cold day – it snowed the day before. But, as with most RocknRoll events, we had a great time.

  39. righteousbruin9 on March 26, 2012 at 7:54 pm

I have walked these sorts of events in Phoenix before, but am definitely not a runner.

    • catchcarri on March 27, 2012 at 5:37 am

That’s the best part is that you don’t have to be runner! It’s one of those events that could be more fun to walk so it doesn’t end so soon!
