Denverites don’t need to hop a flight for a taste of Paris – they can find it at new restaurant La Cour, a gallery-meets-bistro that opened last month on South Broadway. Owned by the Monley family and friends, who call both Denver and Paris home, the restaurant features French recipes, cheeses, and wines along with an assortment of Denver craft beers and spirits and locally-sourced meats and veggies.

Staying true to the theme, La Cour Denver’s Art Bar will feature art from both French and Colorado artists on a regular rotating basis. Patrons can enjoy the fresh menu items while sipping cocktails, casually browsing the works of art, and of course, socializing. We sat down to chat with co-owner Janet Poth, who emphasized that inspiring conversation was one of the main purposes of opening La Cour.

Read our Q&A with co-owners Janet Poth and Joe Monley below and get radio for La Cour’s patio, opening in April!

Q: What was your inspiration for opening an art bar in Denver?

La Cour is an opportunity to share what we have always believed in: that conversation and exchange are important to foster quality neighborhood relationships.  That sitting down and enjoying food, drink and art is one of the wonders that city life can offer. And that art and music should be part of our daily lives.

Q: Why is Denver the perfect place for the concept?

Denver has the energy of an up and coming city. It is open to the arts and music. It has been our experience that it is open-minded and cares about the quality of life in an almost European way. Denverites love good food!

Q: What is the biggest challenge of the business? And biggest reward?

As with any business of this kind, the first challenge is getting people in the door and providing an experience that will have them coming back with their friends.  Combining a gallery with a bar is an unusual concept in this country and we look forward to introducing it to Denver.

The biggest reward will be successfully sharing with the community our love of the social moment that quality food, drink and art can provide

Q:What do you most love about Colorado?

The mountains!  Majestic, unique and a strong reminder of how beautiful nature is when you’re in the midst of the city.

Q: What is something readers would be surprised to know about you?

That Joe is one of 12 children and that all 12 love sharing moments around the table, traveling to Europe, hiking in the mountains and, above all, art and music.
