Q:  How did the idea for “Mici” come to be?

Food was always the main attraction for our Italian family celebrations.  Michael and Jeff owned two small pizzerias in Florida, but all three Miceli kids wanted to share their passion for family and food by opening an authentic Italian restaurant, in the then, up-and-coming fast-casual arena in Denver.

Q: How do you find inspiration for flavors? What is the most popular?

Our family recipes that have been passed down for generations are the inspiration for Mici.  They have been the centerpiece of our meals and family gatherings since we were kids.  Our dad is really the executive chef, he’s been cooking these family recipes for years. Some of our favorites include the DiGirolomo pizza, Tortellini alla Miceli, and homemade meatballs.

MICI Q&A

Q: What is the biggest challenge of running a business? And Biggest reward?

The biggest challenge is making sure we put family before business. It’s tricky because family means everything to us, but it’s also the heart and soul of our business. We are very hands-on to ensure we are providing a genuine family environment at our restaurants, which means maintaining relationships with our team of Mici employees and guests.

The biggest reward is when our hard work pays off and guests feel welcomed, satisfied, and anxious to return. We feel like we couldn’t have chosen a better way to honor the family before us, the ones who helped make Mici possible!

Q: What do you most love about Colorado?

Living close to each other and having our children grow up together is what we most love about Colorado, but you can’t beat the beautiful weather and scenery!  Also, it’s a launching pad for fresh, new business concepts, particularly in the fast-casual industry, which makes it an exciting and inspiring place to be for us!

Q: What is something readers would be surprised to know about you or your business?

Readers may be surprised to know that our very first employee, hired ten years ago, is still working with us today. Also, we’re not behind-the-scenes owners, we work everyday in our restaurants and are passionate about it!
