Review: The Curtis Hotel in Denver, Colorado

When a hotel holds their grand opening on the birthday of Bart Simpson (on purpose) you know it’s a hotel like no other. Find a different theme on each of the 16th floors at The Curtis Hotel . Some of my favorites are the fun and games floor (4th) Mad About Music (15th) and Chick Flick Floor (11th). Each one explores a playful theme of pop culture with posters and memorabilia to match. It’s worth looking into the suites for the extra splurge and space and ultimate views of downtown. Plus, you will find even more quirky touches in your room.

I stayed on the Sci-Fi floor (pet friendly) and found 6 men inside! They were painted on the wall… and were all stars of the movie Stark Trek, but still I slept next to the stars, which beats under the stars. Right? Although super crazy and fun, you will find the rooms don’t slack when it comes to detail. They are fully updated with all the amenities a guest expects, including a fitness center open 24/7 with the full line up. Which is good and bad.. great because the Disco Brunch is around the corner, bad because now I am trapped into a complete workout: strength, cardio and balance.

Pricing:  Starts at $179 a night. $31 for overnight parking.

Reasons to stay.

1. Accessibility. The hotel is located across from the Denver Center for Performing Arts and just blocks from the 16th Street Mall.  There are more than 40 restaurants within five blocks of the hotel (you will never be hungry) and plenty of attractions.

2. Board Games. In the lobby! Seriously, I am sitting here right now and am contemplating either a. scrabble, b. chutes and ladders or c. chess. Which should I choose? (Please don’t choose chess, I don’t even know the first rule.)

3. Corner Office. No no, not one with your computer, printer and boss. The fun continues right here with one of the best happy hours in town. A burger (not just a slider) for $5, Korean Wings $5 and Duck Poutine $4 are just the start. Cocktails and wine start at $5 and Beer at $2. Everyday from 3-6 and 9-11. Don’t skip on the cocktails. The Martini Bar where the play on pop culture continues with drinks like the James Dean and the Buzz Aldrin.
