In this episode of Out West for Xfinity Comcast, we head to Elitch Gardens in Downtown Denver- the only theme and water park in the entire country. Here, you will find more than 50 rides, shops and attractions plus the Island Kingdom Waterpark. The park was established in 1890 by John and Mary Elitch in the Highlands area of Denver as a Botanic Garden, that was later transformed into a zoo and even a Children’s museum before it moved to Downtown Denver as an amusement park.

Inside you will find nostalgic elements like a hand carved carousel built in 1928 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company  as well as newer elements like SlideZilla,a story waterslide at Island Kingdom Waterpark that will spin you around, swallow you up and spit you out.

You can also catch special events year around like Fright Fest, which kicks off in October and lasts throughout the entire month on Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s. During the day it’s kid friendly with Trick or Treat trails and activities for the little ones. Then, come night  it’s all about the haunted houses and live shows. And in September, check out Brew Fest– a Thrills & Pils’ Beer Festival with more than 80 beers to try.

Carri’s Catch: You have to ride Twister II, which is a longer and taller version of the original Mister Twister built at the park’s original location in 1964. This is the longest roller coaster in the entire park and they say it was built wilder the second time around.
