Glass Beach fort Bragg

Video: Ways Fort Bragg California Elevates Every Ordinary Experience

Fort Bragg Mendocino

Fort Bragg is King at elevating ordinary experiences. Start with a beach tour on horseback departing from Ricochet Ranch. These horses aren’t afraid to stomp through waves rolling in from the Pacific and even gallop if more experienced riders are in command.

For more water adventure, paddle the K9 cruiser, a type of canoe developed by the folks over at Catch-A-Canoe, a full-service outdoor shop. The wooden vessels are made in nearby Potter Valley with a center console so dogs can join. Even if you didn’t bring your dogs, it’s a great way to take on calmer waters of the Big River in a handcrafted canoe you won’t find anywhere else.

Wrap up the day with a sunset walk at a former dump. It is much more glamorous than it sounds, we promise. What is now the glass beach was used as a public dump for decades until 1949. Over time, waves transformed shards of broken glass into soft sea glass that now sparkles with an array of colors. Look up close and you will see everything from bottles, mirrors and ceramics that have helped turned this into one of the world’s most colorful beaches. Wind down the day at Cowliks for a scoop of the much talked about mushroom ice cream. It’s made with candy cap mushrooms, which have a sweeter taste than you would expect.
