DONE!

In recent stories we have seen people transitioning from brewing beer in their garage to taking their homemade craft brews and starting breweries. Swap out the yeast and barley flavored water for Colorado milk, cream, and sugar and the same formula can be applied to the owners of Denver based Sweet Action Ice Cream.
Sweethearts, Sam Kopicko and Chia Basinger pooled their savings and took on loans to see if their home hobby could stand as a business. “We had a lot of good feedback on our homemade ice cream. We both weren’t thrilled with our jobs and thought what if?” says Kopicko.
Three years later, the “what if” thoughts seem to have disappeared as fast as the homemade ice cream. It’s quite common for customers to line up before the open sign flips. How can you wait when we are talkin’ Slated Butterscotch? Or Lemon Ricotta? It’s like eating dessert for breakfast. For all you whiskey lovers, they have teamed up locally based, Stranahan’s Whiskey to create Stranahan’s Whiskey Brickle Ice Cream. If beer is your drink, try the Mexican Chocolate Stout made with Copper Kettle’s Award Winning beer. Or if you are looking for the hard stuff consider the White Russian. It’s flavored with Kahlua, vodka and coffee.
So what makes this ice cream a scoop better than the rest? “We just stick to the basics. We don’t add corn syrup or other extra ingredients,” reveals Kopicko. Vegan and dairy free ice cream is made with coconut milk.  The flavors change daily, but traditional and non-traditional flavors are always available. In the summer you may come to crave the ice cream made with Palisade peaches or Colorado black cherries. You can also get the scoop at The Four Seasons, Parallel 17 and Tony’s Specialty Market by the pint. Whatever flavor(s) you choose, the tasty treat continues to churn heads in Denver.

Do you we have to narrow it down to one favorite? Honestly it’s a toss up between coconut and carmel.

I love the story of Sweet Action ice cream. Reminds me of an ice cream where I visited in Annapolis. They make all of their ice cream at home every single night and bring it to the store. It’s a husband and wife team and they use simple ingredients as well. They were open every day of the year except for two weeks. I love the local stories like this and will definitely have to check this place out when I am in Denver this year. It may be my first stop once I arrive! 🙂

My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. However, not everyone does it well so I will be curious to see how theirs taste.
