5 Awesome Experiences to Have in the Gorgeous Island of Mykonos

Greece has over 600 islands which surround its mainland and whist I haven’t quite had the chance to visit them all, I have been fortunate enough to tick quite a few off my list. Without question my favorite of these islands that I have been to is Mykonos and it was a place that I really fell in love with at first sight. I normally try to stay in the Adorno Suites hotel in Mykonos which is just an amazing luxury place to stay, book here if you plan to go to the island, I highly recommend it. There is much to do on the island and these are just a few ideas which I have for you if you plan to go to Mykonos in the near future.

Sunset at the Windmills

The main export of the island used to be wheat and as such there were many windmills dotted around the island. The trade has all but gone now but there are still 7 windmills left on the island which are free to visit and make for a great photo opportunity. The windmills are high above sea level and that makes them the perfect place for watching the sun set into the beautiful Aegean  Sea.

Day Trip to Delos

There are regular day trips which leave from the Old Harbor in Mykonos that will take you to the island of Delos just a few kilometers away. Delos is a archaeological site which is UNESCO recognized and it is said to have been the birthplace of both Apollo and Artemis. Throughout the island there is so much to discover from fountains to theaters, plazas and old houses. These ruins give you a fascinating insight into Ancient Greece.

Little Venice

Surrounding the Old Harbour is the town of Alefkandra, or Little Venice, a labyrinth of cobbled-stone streets which offer a wonderful place to spend your afternoon. The name of Little Venice is given because of the how close the water is to this area and the old, colorful buildings look incredible against the back drop of the sea. Here you’ll find bars and restaurants to spend your time, a beautiful corner of the world.

Panagia Paraportiani

This island is full of locations to take great photos and one of my favorite spots is the church of Panagia Paraportiani. This is actually five churches in one, and as the centuries have passed more layers have been built. The church sits on a crest overlooking the sea and is a must-visit location when you are here.

Relax at Agios Sostis

Much like many of the Greek islands there is heavy tourism and that means the beaches can get filled up pretty quickly. If you are looking for something a little more relaxing however then your best bet is to go to the Agios Sostis beach. Here there are no sunbeds, no beach bars and if you are lucky, very few people. This is the perfect place to enjoy some tranquility here in Mykonos. You are going too adore this island when you visit, mark my words.
