4 tips to protect your skin from the sun
When summer comes around, there’s no better feeling than getting outside and feeling the sun on your skin. But too much time in the sun can be dangerous, with sunstroke, skin damage, even cancer a possibility. UV rays are powerful things and the sun has to be treated with respect.
Obviously, you want to make the most of the warm weather. So you need to take care, and protect your skin as much as possible from the sun. So if you are choosing a cruise in 2022 or planning a beach holiday for the summer, here are a few tips to make sure you can enjoy soaking up a few rays safely!
Always use sunscreen
The number one thing to do on a beach holiday or a sun-drenched cruise if you want to look after your skin and avoid sunburn or worse is wear sunscreen. Choose a sunscreen with a high SPF (sun protection factor) number, as this indicates the amount of protection it provides. You should also aim to find a broad spectrum sunscreen, as this filters out UVA and UVB radiation. Don’t forget that you will need to reapply sunscreen regularly throughout the day, particularly if you are swimming. It is also worth looking at makeup and moisturizers that have SPF, as they can protect you when you might otherwise forget to apply sunscreen.
Think about your outfit
Long sleeves, pants, and skirts can all help protect against the sun. If you plan to swim, it can be a good idea to use a t-shirt, ideally one specifically designed to protect against the sun. If you are off to the beach, grab a light shawl or cover-up so you can keep some of the sun off you when you aren’t swimming or sunbathing.
Wear a hat
A wide-brimmed hat not only keeps the sun off your face, ears, and neck, where your skin is most sensitive, but can also be a great way to prevent heat stroke. Baseball caps work for the face, but don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your neck and ears which won’t be protected.
Treat your skin right after the sun
Finally, it is always worth moisturizing or using aloe vera or aftersun products after a day in the sun. This will help with any sunburn, but is a great idea even if you have been careful enough throughout the day, as it will keep your skin young and healthy!
