Run for Remembrance Honors Veterans with a Run Through Lowry Air Force Base
Nearly 300 people came out for the 4th Annual Run for Remembrance at the Lowry Air Force Base. The race saw nearly a 40% increase in registration and will likely keep growing because it is a feel good kind of race that’s purpose is to remember fallen heroes and reflect on their service. Former and active-duty service members also joined the race, many carrying up to 60-pound packs on their backs. “These are my heroes,” said race director Joel Malecka referring to those who have sacrificed so much for our country. “This is my way of saying thank you.”
Whether runners chose the 5K or 10K option, racers were able to run for a veteran and could even have specific names printed on bib numbers. After a brief awards ceremony at the Lowry Beer Garden, energized runners and walkers topped off the run with hops and conversation. A race where honor trumps time, this is a race to watch out for next year.
