Beatrice and Woodsley: A Colorado Wilderness in the Heart of the City

Walking the streets of South Broadway, one would not expect to find a fine dining establishment nestled among an aspen grove. Thanks to Beatrice and Woodsley, this is a reality.  The sight of it alone is enough to captivate the curiosity of any passerby. It’s a whole aspen forest lit via lantern light. The effect is enchanting and welcoming.

If the ambiance wasn’t alluring enough, the food is to die for. Beatrice and Woodsley offers a menu of “new old world rustic” cuisine. An homage to the melting pot that is America, Chef Pete List, stuns with simple ingredients and imagination. B&W’s hand crafted cocktails compliment the imaginative menu and trust me, the bartenders know how to make a drink. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The  prices are that of a fine dining establishment, but don’t let that scare you away. There is plenty on the menu that is quite affordable. Also, through November 22nd they are offering a limited menu nightly that is more affordable than the main dinner service menu entitled “Woodsley’s Nosh & ‘Tails” from 5pm to 6:30pm.

As a starting point, I recommend the  Black Mussels, Artisan Cheese Board and the Impearment cocktail. From there you can dive into entrees of Roasted Tomato Risotto, The Porkterhouse Rules, and Car Eatin’ Catfish, just to name a few. Finish  off with the dessert of the night or the Sesame Creme Brulee and a cappuccino.

The cocktails and atmosphere are enough to warrant a visit to Beatrice and Woodsley. But this is no doubt a must eat place in Denver. It is hands down one of the coolest restaurants I have been to in the city. Not only that, but they offer dairy-free and gluten-free menus for those on a restricted diet. There is also a wine cellar in the basement where many events are held monthly.

As they would say, “Everyone has to eat, some choose to dine…” And no one does dining quite like Beatrice and Woodsley.

Beatrice and Woodsley is located at 32 South Broadway, Denver, CO 80223 and dinner service is nightly from 5pm to “until the crowd thins”.  You can check out more details or make a reservation here.
