Beaver Creek, CO is anything but another mountain town. The expression often used by locals and now tourists is “not exactly roughing it.” After spending time in the intimate ski village, I see just how true the slogan is. Ski ambassadors make it their business to offer directions, help carrying equipment and offer insider tips on everything from the shopping to places to fuel up. The friendliness accelerates come 3:00 everyday, which is also known as “cookie time.” Volunteers suit up in freshly pressed chef linens offering warm cookies at the base of the
mountain. And they don’t skimp either- more than 500,000 cookies are served each year to people coming off the slopes. “It’s one of the most anticipated times of the day. It’s activities like this that really make Beaver Creek about a community.” There is a distinct friendliness and happiness in this town that will make sure every aspect of your trip soars
to the top.

Women’s Social Tour

Women's Social Tours at Beaver Creek are a sure-fire way to make new friends and network on the mountain.

For an experience unique to Beaver Creek, hop on a Women’s Social Tour. Led by ski school ambassadors, get ready to traverse the mountain with plenty of insider tips along the way. Get the locals perspective on everything from the best ways to avoid lift lines, where to find the best snow and the places with the tastiest grub. You may even pick up a few ski tips along the way! And because you’re skiing with an instructor, you can eliminate lines by zipping through “ski school” lift lines. “These tours can make women feel more comfortable. This
way they don’t have to carry a map around and can ski with people who know the mountain,” says Ski School Instructor, Laurie Gongaware.

On average, there are 9 to 20 people on the tours. Beaver Creek stirred up the idea as a way to promote something so important to this classic mountain town-
community. “This is such a great way to meet new people. I have seen women go to lunch after, exchange cards and ski together the rest of the day,”
says Hughes. The two-hour tours meet at the base of the Centennial chair lift at 10 a.m. Tuesday- Friday. The tours change daily, so don’t limit yourself to just
one! Recommended for intermediate skiers, includes a goodie bag and complimentary cocoa during the tour.

A legacy lives on at Horton Fine Art Galleries. One of the most recognized statues in Beaver Creek is the Repentance Bear, which was crafted by the namesake of the gallery, Walter Horton. (Yes, it’s the bear with an arrow stuck in his rear end, looking towards a Native American child with his bow.) Horton, a former cartoonist who also had mega talent for sculpture, died in 2010, but his son, Jesse carries on his talent. The gallery doubles as a studio where Jesse is recreating the Repentance Bear for New Jersey customer. The gallery also sells an array of artwork from both Colorado artists and artists from around the world.
