Why Beaver Creek Is World Class

The reasons Beaver Creek is a world class resort go beyond the national attention this mountain lands from events like the FIS World Ski Championships and the World Cup, which reign in the best skiers from every corner of the world. World class here also comes in forms of luxe lodging, restaurants only accessible by snow cat and a mountain that rivals any other in the nation. Plus, there are plenty of sweet surprises along the way. Read on to find out.

Where to Stay:

For a spot where service and amenities are dialed in, check out the Chateau. It’s a 5- minute complimentary shuttle ride to the village and also offers ski in ski out access, plus some of the best views on the mountain. Rooms don’t miss a beat, either. Decorated with modern mountain décor, find a full service kitchen, a steam feature in master shower and all the homey touches you would find in a cabin but with added luxury. Plus, guests are greeted with a bottle of iced champagne to kick off the stay while looking at snow-covered views of the mountain and the lights gleaming from the village. Rooms range from one bedroom all the way to six. Check out rates and room options here.

Where to Eat:

The only way to get to Beano’s Cabin is by SNOW cat, and who would have it any other way? And heading up there when snow is falling, is even better. (Staff makes sure you have the works: a heavy blanket, gloves and jacket). After the 15 minute ride up the mountain, warm your feet with slippers before taking your seat for a high-end five-course dinner set with wood burning fireplaces, rustic décor and live acoustic music. The menu changes throughout the season, but is sure to always offer items that are out of the ordinary. For appetizers, try the fried rabbit served with honey and horseradish aioli. When it comes to the main course the black cod is a top pick and won’t leave you overly stuffed.

For a lighter take on dessert, try the sorbet and ice cream. Heartier appetite? You have got to go for the chocolate molten cake served with a scoop of ice cream.

Where to Play:

Beaver Creek Mountain, of course! What makes this mountain world class? Well, it starts with the friendliness, which is first experienced by smiling red-coated ski ambassadors stationed throughout the village to offer directions and are quick to offer help carrying skis and other gear. It carries on to encouraging ski instructors and lift operators who often wish you a smooth ride. The mountain is for skiers of all levels. Find 25 lifts taking you to the launch point for more than 150 different trails, which are best known for their world class grooming. Try runs like Grouse Mountain for some of the steepest and bumpiest terrain for advanced skiers. For a run that lasts, try Centennial, which is the longest on the mountain at three miles. Another treat in store (almost as awesome as the cookies served at 3:00 daily to all skiers and boarders) is being able to take the same tracks as the athletes from the Audi Birds of Prey World Cup.

If you are looking to improve your skills, sign up for a group lesson with the Beaver Creek Ski School. A full day lesson ($210) runs for six hours and starts at 9:45 a.m. For beginners, this can be helpful to have a guide on a mountain you are unfamiliar with. You are also likely to meet some new international pals since Beaver Creek is a haven for tourists from across the world. If you can score a weekday lesson, your chances of having a smaller group are better. On a weekend, you could have up to 8 people per instructor, which can limit personal instruction.
