Broome Hut Opens Near Berthoud Pass
There is a new hut open in the Colorado backcountry- and is open for outdoor enthusiasts! Located on the west side of Berthoud Pass, the Broome Hut makes backcountry living luxurious. Expected padded beds, a kitchen stock full of utensils, a pellet stove, compostable toilets and a warm fire all inside a cabin built from beetle kill wood. Powered by solar panels, the hut won’t take you too far outside your comfort zone. Plus, it’s peaceful being in such a remote area with some of your greatest friends, even if sacrificing a down comforter and hot shower. Especially if it means you are you are seconds away from untouched trails once the sun comes up over the mountaintop. And, the chance of fresh snow is nearly guaranteed- the Second Creek Basin sees over 500 inches of snow a year in the 11,000 foot elevation.
Getting there will wake up your quads after climbing a steep 1.5 miles through snow packed trails. If you need more of a workout- there are still plenty of treasured trails to explore past the hut headquarters.
**Inside you will find 16 beds. There are 2 bunkrooms, each with 6 beds, along with 2 private rooms that sleep 2. There is also a day-use room at the hut that is separated from the overnight area.
