Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration in Niagara, Canada
Canada’s Niagara region is the perfect spot for growing several grape varities. The area has the same latitude as Bordeaux and Italy, bringing a similar micro climate perfect for grape growing with the cool climate. Among the grapes that thrive here are Chardonnay, which started to loose steam after consumers started to veer away from the oaky and heavy taste. But regions, including Niagara, are reacting by making more food friendly and fresh options.
We talk with Magdalena Kaiser, Public Relations Director for Wine Country Ontario, about the ways Canada’s Niagara region is helping lead the charge to keep Chardonnay a major varietal in the wine landscape. To celebrate one of the nations most popular wines, the region is hosting the 5th annual Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration July 17-19, 2015. The celebration draws Chardonnay winemakers from all over the globe and of course those who come just to taste.
