She’s baaaaack! Serving up a bowl of laughs, Dixie Longate is off for another run at the Garner Galleria Theater with a unique concept: mixing a real Tupperware party as a one woman comedy show. Dixie brings humor to the world of plastics. “I am going to host a party, because who doesn’t want to go to a party?” Dixie squeals.
During the outrageously funny show, Dixie seamlessly mixes in stand-up, improv, plenty of sexual innuendos and audience participation– all the while sticking to her main goal of selling the latest and greatest in food storage. Kiwi green, tangerine-orange and mixed-berry plastic wear decorate the stage as Dixie shows off key selling points as she chomps her gum and tosses her bright red curly hair.
“I own so much Tupperware. It’s the best crap on the planet,” touts Dixie as she bounces across the stage in a homemade dress and spiky heels that could kill. She picks up a bowl that “is the closest thing we will ever get to baby Jesus on earth” and assures us our food will stay fresh for decades with this item. “You know that moment when you think ‘when did I buy a black plum? Oh ya it’s a white onion.’ ” No longer do we have to worry about our food spoiling past the point of recognition. Sold on item #471!
As wildly inappropriate and hilarious as the show is, there is a soft side that even managed to calm the roaring laughter in the intimate theater. Dixie talks about how even at her lowest moments, Tupperware has given her a goal and something to work for, even if it’s just plastic. The story refreshes a message so many have heard: never give up!
In an interview after the show, I asked Dixie if she has ever been number one in Tupperware Sales. On stage, Dixie plays the underdog who has an eye of the tiger focus aiming to reach the number one slot on the sales board. Turns out, Dixie has been number one but doesn’t brag on stage. “I want people to know it’s ok to not be at the top. It’s the journey of trying and every time you try you find something new.”
Dixie’s “tuppermonails” have spoken and now this fiery and fierce lady is selling out shows across the nation.
