Eight Ways to Bring Vacation Home with You
The word ‘vacation’ brings to mind these magical images of a getaway somewhere far from home where you can cut loose, relax, and let your stress drift away on ocean waves. Unfortunately, for most Americans, travel isn’t currently an option. Whether it’s because of tighter budgets or keeping safe from COVID-19, more Americans have to stay home than ever. This problem doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the feeling that a good vacation gives you, though! Here are eight incredible ways to bring a vacation home to yourself and keep those travel blues at bay!
Bring Other Countries Home
Travel hits hardest for those who are used to traveling more than one time a year. Some of us live through our first year without a plane flight in over ten years, while others are trying to figure out what to do with all of these miles they’re accruing and not using. You can bring other countries home by having a day inspired by them. Instead of going to South Korea, spend a day getting to make the food, watching Korean movies, and learning more about the culture. It’s not a perfect replacement, but it can tide you over!
Live In The Lap of Luxury
Cut loose and let yourself create the luxurious hotel room you’d want to visit. Find the perfect elegant couch to fill these fantasies, and get some beautiful rugs and lamps to match as well. Although this may be a more expensive staycation idea, the resulting long-term vacation is worth it. Instead of having to say goodbye to luxury when you come home, you can enjoy it for as long as possible!
Have Fun In The Sun
This option may not be available if you live in an apartment or if it’s winter. Otherwise, this could be a great idea! Plan a day getting to be out enjoying your yard. You can spend days leading up to this mowing and manicuring your lawn, and then on the day of, pour yourself a fruity tropical drink, layout some beach towels, and put on some vacation music that sends your mind somewhere beautiful and warm.
Sight-See On Your Own!
You don’t have to put yourself at risk of COVID-19 to sightsee! There are many great options where you don’t have to come into contact with anyone you don’t know. The first option is to get in your car and drive around your city. Whether you’ve seen a sight every day since you were a kid, or there are parts of your city still unknown to you, you can take the time to get to dive deeper into the history of your area.
Electronics Off
Although this isn’t entirely a vacation idea of its own, it’s an excellent plan for those who don’t know what to do the moment they’re allowed to cut loose. Turn off your electronics for at least a couple of hours. Spend this time reading, biking, swimming, or doing anything you don’t need a screen for. This plan will let your mind fully relax and cut loose, and you’ll be able to focus on more than just the endless news and doom scrolling that has taken up a lot of this year.
Make a Themed Dinner Or Two!
Do you have a movie that means everything in the world to you? Make a themed meal out of it! You can eat burgers and milkshakes and watch Pulp Fiction, or Make a big feast and watch Beauty and the Beast with your children. Bonus points if everyone dresses up! This idea is a great way to be imaginative and work with everyone towards a common goal.
Treat Yourself With Delicacies
You’re saving a lot of money, not traveling. From plane tickets to hotel rooms to the expenses of foods, drinks, and trinkets you’ll buy once you’re there- not going on vacation could be saving you thousands of dollars. Why not turn that back towards yourself? Buy foods that you usually wouldn’t because of their price. Want lobster? Get it. Want to see what the hype is about black truffle oil? Now’s the time to figure it out! Treat yourself, and enjoy staying in with good food.
Trade-Off Vacations!
Everyone in your household may have a different view of what’s high class or the dream vacation. You may want a spa at an ocean resort, while your husband may wish to a forest getaway, and your kids could be missing theme parks. You can plan a different vacation for different days and let everyone have fun putting their all into it. There’s a pure kind of fun your whole family can have in making everyone’s vacation dreams come true. If putting them back to back is too much, you can make every Saturday a fun ‘vacation’ day! Who says you can’t have a weekly mini-vacay?
