Experience Music Project, Seattle
The eccentrically shaped building of the Experience Music Project in Seattle, WA is the first giveaway that it’s anything but an ordinary museum. The main exhibits focus on the music of Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana to show how Seattle became a place on the map when it comes to beats. You will learn how these artists weren’t afraid to step away from “mainstream” music and create their own genre of “alternative” music. Visitors can sift through several thousand artifacts including hand-written song lyrics, costumes and instruments ondisplay.
Visitors looking for a real life version of “Rock Band” can enjoy a jam shesh with a group ‘On Stage.’ There is space for a vocalist, guitarist, drummer and also for someone to tap the tambourine. If that’s not enough hands on, head to the ‘Sound Lab’ where there are several instruments to play and music to
mix. The museum also explores the dynamics of movies like Avatar and Battle Star Gallactica through creative exhibits. In the Avatar exhibit you can transform yourself into one of “Avatar’s” CG alien characters and act out a scene taking commands from the voice of director, James Cameron. Battlestar Galactica holds several full size props from the original movie and TV series. Regardless of if music or Sci-Fi fits your interest the museum is sure
to spark an interest.
