Final Travel Preparations

So you have bought your ticket to travel and your passport is up to date valid for travel.  You are almost ready to leave.  In the final days before you travel there are just a few last minute things to think about.

5 Very Important Things You May have Forgotten About:

  1. Make sure you leave important information with someone at home that you trust:

Make sure you leave a copy of your itinerary with someone at home, as well as copies of your credit cards, your passport, and any other important travel documentation this will ensure that you can still call and cancel documents if you lose everything or it gets stolen.    Make sure you keep that persons contact information close as well, memorization is best but you may forget everything in a panicked state and even if you have your cell phone it may not work.

  1. Have you purchased any particular items that you may need for that country?

Some countries may not have a particular item that you are partial to. For example, many countries in Asia have whitening agents in their toiletries and deodorants. This is something that someone from a western country may not want to use. So unless you want to spend your time scouring super markets for a particular item, I suggest you don’t forget.

  1. Make sure you have a basic understanding of the local customs of where you are going.

For example if traveling to certain countries dressing inappropriately or acting inappropriately could get you thrown in jail or killed.  Make sure you understand a bit about the place you are traveling to.  It will not be like home is, that is why you are going there.

  1. Medications:

Make sure you take more of your prescription than your required stay.  If you want to stay longer than planned it could be hard to get the same medication.  Also if you have allergies, or some other potentially life threatening illness, make sure you have a medical ID bracelet and that you inform your Tour Guide of all potential problems before hand.  Even if you notified the tour operator beforehand make sure you personally introduce yourself to your guide.  Don’t just assume the message got passed along, your health and safety comes first.

  1. Check out the Website for your International Airport before you start packing.

Security measures for airplanes are constantly changing.  Make sure you know exactly what you can carry on the plane with you and make sure that you know where everything is.  Also, check out luggage weight restrictions for the airlines you will be using.  You don’t want to get dinged with overweight luggage charges as these can be quite steep.

Most likely nothing bad will happen if on your trip and you will have a fantastic experience.  But these few extra steps can make a big difference to your situation if something does go wrong.  You can rest a little easier knowing that you are prepared for the worst.
