Fitness on the Rocks

Working out with music is just better. And even better yet when the music is pumped up enough to fill Red Rocks Amphitheater. Combine a veteran DJ with rad workout instructors and hundreds anxious to take on a workout and you get Fitness on the Rocks. I would say don’t delay to sign up for next years event—but up to 2,000 people can pack the amphitheater for workouts, there is plenty of room.

The event offered classes starting at 8:30 a.m. and running until just after 1:00. The total Body Workouts and It Burns Joe Fitness took the main stage, and Zumba and turbo kick were on the upper deck. Classes on the upper deck fit just under 300 people—so sign up quick!

The Total Body Workouts are just what it says—it works everything. From squats, lunges, push ups, dips, step ups and plyometrics you won’t be bored. The heat is on. Luckily people are working those hoses and blasting water through the bleachers to cool off the crowd. If you are lucky you will catch the attention of one of the little kids anxiously waiting to splash their super soaker 27000—gosh they have come a long way with a lot more power.

And if you have been to Red Rocks on a weekend to workout you have heard people screaming “IT BURNS JOE!” Especially after a round of jumping clapping push ups, crawling up flights of stairs back words or holding swimmer kick till the water has dried out. Joe Hendricks is the founder of It Burns Joe Fitness, formerly Red Rocks Fitness. He runs a boot camp three days a week that is three hours long. And the intensity brings the followers. Wednesdays from 6-9, and Saturday and Sunday from 8-11 a.m.
