Guys Night Out Raises $15,000 to Benefit Carson J Spencer Foundation
More people now die of suicide than in car accidents. Yet, it remains a topic too touchy for media outlets to cover and a tough subject to talk about. The 2nd annual “Guys’ Night Out” at Casselman’s, to benefit the Carson J Spencer Foundation, started the conversation through the humorous Man Therapy Campaign. “Men respond to humor,” said EmCee Bill Husted, a former Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post writer. “Tonight is about letting men know it’s ok to seek help because it’s the manliest thing a man can do.”
Sally Spencer-Thomas started the Carson J Spencer foundation after her brother took his own life. “Our goal tonight is to bring people together, and say enough is enough. Together we can save lives,” said Spencer-Thomas, CEP of the foundation. “A couple of days ago, I sat down with a friend. He shared that he was reaching the end of his rope. Obviously scared for him, I did everything I could to encourage him to get help, which he said he would. I didn’t really believe him…I then remembered www.mantherapy.com and sent him the link. He is now seeking professional help,” Shared Spencer Thomas.
Former Denver Bronco Player, Brian Griese, also spoke at the event which raised $15,000 for the foundation. The night included creatively decorated cupcakes, Rex’s BBQ, a golf simulator and scotch tastings.
