How to Refresh Your Wardrobe for Winter
It’s fall, and everything is dreary, gray, and wet. The uninspiring weather and nature alike are all making us want to curl up under a blanket in our bed. But, the show must go on, and your wardrobe should match the enthusiasm you should have to finish off this year. So, let’s see what some ways you can refresh your wardrobe and really stand out this winter season are.
Use what you have
Revamping your look doesn’t always need to consist of buying a whole new wardrobe. You already have so many things that you just need to find a new way to wear. For example, your summer tees don’t need to go into vacuum bags for the winter. You can simply layer them above plain turtlenecks, under chunky sweaters, or combined with other items.
Look at your wardrobe and think about how you can transform every item into something you haven’t worn before. You’ll be surprised by how many looks you can pull from one shirt if you just think outside of the box. You can also jazz up your ensembles with some accessories, jewelry, and other details. Get creative with it!
Get the right shoes
When a big, chunky coat covers most of your outfit, you can always count on your shoes showing. And on drab days, a pair of stand-out shoes will always get noticed and pull attention. Make sure they are waterproof and comfortable because the last thing you want when you’re walking home in the rain is wet feet.
As for style, feel free to go bold, but make sure it’s something that matches your wardrobe – and especially your outerwear. The Flynt shoes from Canoe Club are a great example because they’re simple in colors but unique and bold in style. When you have a statement pair of shoes, you can literally throw anything on, and you’ll look like a fashion icon, so don’t be scared.
Fall in love with your scarf
Many people feel like scarves are something you have to add because you’d be cold without it. And sure, that might be the case sometimes, but if you start looking at your scarf like the unique accessory that it is, you’ll see that it can add to your outfit – not just smother it. An oversized, puffy scarf is fantastic for adding volume and texture to an outfit and softening the look altogether, while a silky scarf will make you look sharp and put together. You can also decorate them with necklaces, brooches, and other accessories to make them even more special.
Don’t forget accessories
We tend to think of things like necklaces, watches, and similar jewelry as something that goes on the skin, so when we’re all covered up in the cold, we tend not to use it as much. But your statement necklace will look even better over a black turtleneck that gives it a backdrop. That watch you love doesn’t need to go under the sweater – put it over top and rock that.
If you are going out and you’ll have your coat on all the time, you can go as far as getting a necklace on a long chain and putting it on the outside of your coat. And as always – your bag is there to make a statement, so make it count! Especially if you have a plain piece of outerwear, it’s the perfect background to display a stunning bag.
Play with silhouettes
When you need to layer up and make the layer thick and chunky – it’s hard to keep a classic silhouette. This means you should focus on something different. For example, if you put a lot of layers on top, you can make them a bit shorter and wear something tight on your legs to balance it out. Similarly, if you have baggy pants, something more fitted on top would complement that better.
If you have quite a skinny silhouette all over, you can bulk it up with a big scarf that will give some volume and curves, or indoors, by tying an oversized jacket around your waist. You can always push the limits of traditional style by going oversized all over.
Remember that fashion isn’t something that goes dormant when cold weather hits. And if you don’t have the confidence to wear some of the outfits you’d like to – nobody can see them under your coat! So give them a walk and see how you feel about them! If you pay a little bit of attention to your wardrobe and plan ahead what you’re going to throw on on the cold, winter mornings, you’ll be the best dressed in town.
