How to survive Disney World
Family holidays to Disney World are what childhood dreams are made of. Its every little girl’s dream to meet Cinderella or be a Disney princess, and it’s every little boy’s dream to meet Buzz Lightyear and be an action hero. Of course, it’s probably every parent’s dream to see their little ones bursting with excitement too. Despite that, a holiday to Disney World in Orlando is certainly one thing – tiring!
Here’s a few tips on how to survive that dream Disney World holiday.
Preparation is key
Starting your travel with everyone tired out and over-excited isn’t going to mean a very calm flight. The best way to curb over-tiredness is to avoid having to get up during the early hours of the morning to get to the airport, and instead drive yourself the night before, park up, and stay overnight at an airport hotel. I’ve done this countless time, by booking a bundle deal with Airparks, and not only have I saved money on the cost of public transport, but it made a huge difference to my travel day, cutting down on temper tantrums! You’ll find hotels onsite at most large UK airports, including a great selection of Glasgow Airport hotels north of the border. Check out what’s available at your departure airport.
Consider an itinerary
This might sound very organised and strict, but it really doesn’t have to be, and there are no clipboards involved! Basically there are different things going on at different Disney parks throughout the week – one night there will be fireworks at Epcot, and another night there will be amazing fireworks at Magic Kingdom; you want to see it all, and not miss out. Heading online and finding out what is happening when, and then drawing up a loose itinerary will help you do just that. Basically you’re just wanting to decide which park to go to, on which day. You’re not planning anything else, and the rest of your day can be as spontaneous as you like!
Consider Disney Dining
Disney Dining plans are basically the Disney version of all inclusive. If you’re staying at a Disney hotel you should be able to take advantage of this for a small cost, and it allows you to eat and drink a certain amount per day, as part of your holiday, so you don’t have to carry so much cash around with you, and you don’t spend as much.
Grab a refillable drinking cup
For a small fee, you can buy a refillable cup, which will allow you unlimited refills of water and soft drinks throughout the day. This is a godsend when the sun is beating down, and cuts down on the possibility of dehydration, headaches, and of course saves money, so you’re not having to buy drinks every five seconds.
Have a rest day
We mentioned before that Disney holidays are tiring with a capital T, and you might not realise it until you’re a few days in and you find you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning! Factor in a rest day, either a pool day, or even a day at one of the Disney waterparks for example. These parks close around 6pm, so you’re not going to be having a late night, and you can use that time to have a family meal and an early night.
Wear comfortable shoes
You will totally underestimate how much walking you’re going to be doing. Dress for comfort, not for high fashion!
Above all … enjoy!
