Jekyll & Hyde Playing at Denver’s Buell Theater
The stage of Denver’s Buell Theatre is is cranking up the heat with the revival of JEKYLL & HYDE before the show lands on Broadway in April. Tony nominated singer Constantine Maroulis steps into the role of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, alongside R&B superstar, Deborah Cox. Neither are strangers to Broadway or the main stage.
Maroulis earned a Tony Nomination in 2009 for his lead performance in Rock of Ages. He was also a finalist in the fourth season of American Idol. His mastery of both rock and roll and musical theater bring a boost to the show. Canadian born Deborah Cox also boasts a long list of accomplishments with more than six top 20 Billboard R&B singles. On stage Cox hits powerful notes with songs like “A New Life,” “Someone Like You,” and “Bring on the Men”
The play takes on a revival with new looks and sounds. While the story line stays the same, the performance introduces a more contemporary feel with Maroulis and Cox lending their powerful voices. In the musical, which is adapted from R. L. Stevenson’s 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Maroulis is so desperate to find a cure for his father’s madness, he takes on a fatal experiment that allows him to show is sinister side. Cox plays Lucy, a prostitute who falls in love with Dr. Jekyll after he instills hope for her to find a better life. The two characters both go on quest to find peace and opportunity for a different life.
The show is bold- leaving defined character development, an incredible set design and dark production. Plus there is rock and roll excitement rolled into the classic story.
Tickets Purchased! Should be quite the show!
SO Glad I follow you on Twitter! I saw your tweet and didn’t know the show was already playing! I thought it started in March. I am going this week.. I want to see Deborah Cox on stage. I have followed her music forever. She is so talented.
Sounds like a good plan 🙂 Every show has it’s merit. I am also looking forward to ‘Catch Me If You Can.’ One of my favorite movies taking the stage!
That’s true- I didn’t realize the main character was from American Idol. I missed that season. Would be a fun girls night out! I am saving Catch Me If You Can for my husband!
Hello Ladies! I still recommend the show. These are two huge names on stage. The show does not lack energy, either. Plus you can see it before it takes the stage off Broadway in April! Let me know how you like it!
I saw the review as well and was not about to buy tickets! You make the call CatchCarri- you have never steered us wrong!
This had a terrible review in the Denver Post. Sounds like you liked it. Maybe it’s worth seeing afterall.
