Liberty of London & Archibald Knox at Denver’s Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art

Remarkable metal and jewelry from the late 1800’s and early 1900s is on display in Denver. Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art is showcasing a temporary exhibition of Liberty of London & Archibald Knox. London’s Liberty & Co., which is still in business, sold unique works of art like metalware, home furnishings, and creations from local artists.                                                                                                                                       One of those artists was Archibald Knox who designed metalworks, jewelry, ceramics and textiles. Knox’s did not receive credit while he was alive because Liberty & Co. wanted to be recognized for the art and demanded anonymity from designers. But now the secret behind Knoxs craftiness and inventiveness is out and ready for you to discover.                                                                                                                                 You will notice a Celtic influence and Art Nouveau techniques in the art. Kirkland Museum is one of only a few that consistently shows art from Liberty & Co. The chairman of the Archibald Knox Society has even recognized the museum for possibly having the largest collection of Knox designed Liberty metalware on public view. The exhibit has been extended until January 29th at the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art.
