Mayflower II, Massachusetts
The Plimoth Plantation and Mayflower II are authentic ways to experience links to our past. The Mayflower II, a replica of the original Mayflower, sits just steps from Plymouth Rock. The ship was built in 1955 in England and sailed two years later in 1957. Staying true to the original, it is built with solid oak, hemp rigging and lined with hand-colored maps. Sailors eager to cruise the waters wrote letters to the captain, who then selected his crew. Of course the conditions they faced were much calmer than what the original crew endured.
In 1620 Pilgrims set out across the uneasy waters of the Atlantic, but miraculously only one of 102 passengers died. On board costumed passengers explain who was chosen to take the original journey, how they prepared and also navigated from England to Cape Cod.
