Outdoor Activities to Spend Time with Your Pet This Summer

Summer is the best time to make memories with your family and friends and your pet. Your pet is part of your life, and taking this time to create or strengthen the bond between you two is crucial. Summer provides you with the window of engaging in different activities that are meant to be fun. There are several outdoor activities that you can engage in with your pet during the summer because the weather is fantastic. Here are some of these activities.

1. Hit the Waters

This is one of the most common destinations for many during the summer. The hot temperatures, the sea breeze, and the cool waters make the whole season memorable. What else would make it more memorable than hitting the beach with your pet? It’s most certainly very relaxing having small waves of seawater lap at your feet while your dog runs around playing fetch or having fun with kids.

You can even engage in watersports such as paddle boarding or swimming with your animal friend. David De Haan from SPR says that before paddleboarding with your dog, it is essential to ensure the canine companion is well trained. This ensures their safety and wellness while having some water fun in summer. Also, it pays to ensure you pick a pet-friendly beach and be on the lookout for choppy waters. Take a picture or two to make the moments you enjoy with your pet memorable.

2. Take a Hike

Hiking with a companion is fun. It is even more fun when you tag your favorite pet along. Dogs are especially the best companions when it comes to hiking. They are always jovial, and they motivate you to stay active. They make the whole event fun. You should, however, make sure that the hike is not too strenuous for them.

Carry enough water when hiking with your pet to make sure that you are both hydrated throughout the trek. Your pet should be social as you probably know the hike paths have many people during the summer. The weather should also not be too hot for either of you. Choose a day that the weather is good enough, so you both have fun.

3. Go Camping

There is no perfect way to explore nature with your pet other than choosing a weekend during summer and going camping. Animals are more compatible with nature than we are. They might help you spot some things out there that you would never spot on your own. As you plan, make sure that your place of choice has a spot for your pet. Most parks accommodate pets in their accommodation points.

For your safety and that of your pet, make sure they are vaccinated and given medication to protect against fleas and ticks. If your pet is a dog and tends to wander, carry a cage to hold him during the night. It would be terrible if he wandered away during the night, and you have no way of getting to him. Counter-check with the park management where you intended on going to make sure that you know all the regulations and all that is required of you and your pet.

4. Geocaching

The game has been introduced recently and has mostly involved people. It involves burying things in a designated position with GPS devices. You are then required to use your GPS tracker to reveal where these ‘hidden treasures are. Involving your dog in this game can bring the whole fun to a whole new level. You can create your geocaching experience by burying things that you know your dog loves in these spots.

You then let the dog use its nose to sniff out where these hidden ‘treasures’ are. While it allows your pet to explore the natural world, it creates an opportunity for you to bond and have all the fun you can.

5. Splash Zone

Most pets love playing around with water. Dogs are especially great fans of water games. If this is the case for your dog, the summer is the perfect time to let him have all the fun he can. You don’t have to go anywhere; your backyard is enough to make all the memories you want. Grab a hose and sprinkler and set them up. Get something that your dog loves to fetch and let him play in the sprinkling water. You can scale up by getting a doggy splash for your backyard and then watching as your dog has all the fun. You can join him if you wish.

Summer is the perfect time to have all the fun you can. The weather is perfect for outdoor activities. Please don’t leave your pet locked up in the house while they can be making the summer merrier. Tag him along to any of the above activities, and have all the fun you can.
