It started with a tragedy, now with around 250 volunteers and over 3,000 children being served, this holiday charity is growing. What is it?

The 4th Annual Dolls for Daughters and Toys for Boys Toy Shop

It started in 2007 after a little baby girl named Kenzi was stillborn at twenty-four weeks old. After losing her daughter, mother Jessica Bachus, started collecting dolls to give to needy children. The first year Bachus collected 150 dolls and the amount of toys has been growing ever since.

A Toy for Every Child

Last year 3,100 children received toys. The Bachus family currently has three children of their own and a clear passion to make sure all children receive a toy for Christmas.

Volunteers

The two hundred and fifty volunteers that are expected this year include representatives from many organizations. Hunger Free Colorado, Denver Health and Human Services, Food Bank of the Rockies, and more.

Sponsors

Denver Montclair International School is hosting the toyshop this year at its location. Many businesses are showing their support with sponsorship. Among them Cosmetic Dentistry of Colorado, Woody Creek Bakery, California Pizza Kitchen, Picture the Day, and others.

Participation

In order for families to participate, each child must have a valid birth certificate presented to receive a toy. A birth certificate is the only form of identification that will be accepted.

Each child will receive a brand new toy along with a toothbrush/toothpaste set, a book and even a stocking with a stocking stuffer inside.

Founder, Jessica Buchus, commissioned this year’s book, and it expresses the story of what her daughter’s life may have been like had she lived.
