Pippin the Musical in Denver
Attention Broadway fans: don’t miss the hit musical “Pippin” at The Buell Theatre this month. The national tour of the show, which won four Tony Awards last year, launched in Denver on September 6th with new twists.
First of all, star Matthew James Thomas, who originated the role of Pippin in last year’s revival, has rejoined the cast to replace Kyle Selig after Selig unfortunately had to take a medical leave of absence for vocal rest. Another exciting cast addition is the first-time female lead, Sasha Allen, who you might recognize from the Top 5 on Season 4 of NBC’s “The Voice.” And Lucille Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, rocks the stage with a hilarious performance and even rocks an acrobatic act.
The latest re-invented production of Pippinalso features a different ending, along with incredible acrobatic stunts, magic tricks and a dazzling set.
For those unfamiliar with the storyline, “Pippin” tells the tale of a young prince who set out on a journey to find himself, and the meaning of life, through a medieval fable. And everyone knows at least some of the famous tunes that have gone on to become Broadway staples from “Pippin,” including “Magic to Do,” “Corner of the Sky” and “No Time at All.”
While the musical originally debuted in 1972, the revival playing now captures and wows a modern audience with stunning choreography and circus acrobatics. The show’s music and lyrics were written by composer Stephen Shwartz, who was also behind major shows like “Godspell,” “Wicked” and “Working.”
Denver has a long history as being one of the best cities to launch a national tour of a Broadway production, with a reputation for selling out shows in record time. That means if you’re interested in attending, you should snag tickets now before they’re all gone!
“Pippin” is playing at The Buell Theatre through Sept. 20, and tickets are on sale now at denvercenter.org or by calling 303-893-4100.
