Review: Vita Liberata

Lets be real here- self-tanning is usually a drag. It can consist of smelly products that get all streaky and fade way too fast. Not to mention the fact that most self-tanners contain harmful chemicals that can dry out your skin – pretty much doing the opposite of what you were trying to do by staying out of the sun in the first place.

But there is one brand of self-tan products on the market that I trust, and that is Vita Liberata. The first completely non-toxic tanning brand, Vita Liberata products are organic and rich with moisturizing botanicals such as hyaluronic acid, fruit extracts and aloe that leave skin looking sun kissed and hydrated.

Vita Liberata founder Alyson Hogg set out to make products that were not only natural and safe, but that actually worked. She developed self-tanning products that would leave skin glowing without the toxins and overpowering scent that’s usually associated with an at-home bronzing session.

Rapid Tan Mousse

One of the more recent products that Vita Liberata launched is their Rapid Tan Mousse ($43 at Sephora), which actually allows you to achieve a tan in as little as one hour. That means if you’ve got a last minute date or party to attend tonight, you still have time to get tan without the sun. The transfer resistant, instant bronzing mousse allows you to see where the product is being applied and your tan will start to materialize within 1 to 3 hours. The mousse dries instantly, and the result looks natural. You can also adjust the level of your tan by leaving it on for a shorter or longer period of time.

Phenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Lotion

For those with a little more patience, my favorite Vita Liberata product is the phenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Lotion ($54 at Sephora). Providing an extremely long lasting tan, this lotion is ultra moisturizing and features a revolutionary technology that lasts up to 4 times longer than a regular tan. It feels creamy and luxurious – perfect for dry or mature skin.

It’s time to toss ineffective tanning products and if you’re still using the sun or tanning beds to get bronzed, it’s time to quit. Vita Liberata is my new summer beauty obsession.
