Rocky Mountain National Park Recovers From Flooding & Program Update
Floods back in September have left their devastation on roads, homes, and businesses in Estes Park. Even Rocky Mountain National Park has been impacted.
Old Fall River Road will remain closed heading into 2014. This scenic road is a winding and historic one, built between 1913 and 1920. The road is usually open to visitors from July to October providing a view of Mount Chapin’s south face. Crews are taking a look at the damage to Old Fall River Road and estimating repairs. It is not known if the road will be back open for hikers and cyclists this next season.
Most of the damage occurred east of the Continental divide with damage to bridges, roadways, and trees. Visitors are pre-cautioned to watch for potential hazards. There are segments missing from some trails, footbridges down, and uneven surfaces, caving slopes, and missing signs.
Despite this natural disaster and turn of events there are still undamaged areas and things to do at the Rocky Mountain National Park.
