San Antonio Texas Welcomes New Brewery: ALAMO Beer Company
San Antonio, Texas is turning a new leaf with a slew of new business and innovation. That includes everything from an interactive new children’s museum, The Do Seum ,opening later this year and a former brewery established in the 1800’s that is being revamped into Hotel Emma in the up and coming multi use space area dubbed The Pearl. In this same district, find new restaurant concepts like Southerleigh where cuisine is true Texan taste.
But the newest concept to San Antonio, The ALAMO Beer Company (415 Burnet Street) is opening today. Eugene Simor is behind concept. “There is a real need for San Antonio to continue it’s long history of brewing,” he says. He also considers himself the luckiest guy in the world. “Because if I don’t come home from work smelling like beer, my wife accuses me of not working,” he laughs. The new spot is just a half mile from the Alamo. The flagship beer is: ALAMO Golden Ale and joining the line up is: Alamo Amber Lager, Alamo Pilsner and and a German Pale Ale.
Check out our Q&A to learn more.
Q: How is this one different from other others?
A: I toured over 30 different breweries before building my own. I wanted to make sure that ALAMO was not only focused on making great beer but also that it was designed with the visitor in mind. We have a large beer hall with seating for over a 100 people in air conditioned comfort and plenty more space in the beer garden for a 1,000 more folks. Nothing better than sitting in the shade, enjoying a cold one, and playing some horseshoes.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: Having a dream become a reality by hard work and persistence.
Q: What is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
A: That in 1983 I rode my bicycle from Miami to Manhattan.
6. What do you suggest travelers do while visiting? Besides of course visiting Alamo Beer Company.
You gotta do the SA golden triangle … see the river walk, tour The Alamo, and visit the ALAMO Brewery.
With those must does done, I would highly recommend a walking tour of the King William Historic District. That should get your appetite worked up for one of the many fine local restaurants that are now nationally acclaimed. Just make sure you ask for an ALAMO beer to go with your meal. Some of my favorite spots to enjoy a beer are The Friendly Spot, La Tuna, Tycoon Flats, and The Cove.
