Seven Top Coffees to Try this Summer

Whether you are drinking it hot or on the rocks, coffee is a year-round delicious addiction. But there are some coffees that just taste absolutely delightful to me in the summertime. Here are 7 favorite coffees to try:

1.  Copper Cow Coffee

I love the story behind this coffee company. It is the creation of Debbie Wei Mullin who decided after she successfully launched parent company Wei Pantry to begin Copper Cow Coffee, which would be all natural, socially sustainable, specialty Vietnamese coffee. In 2016, Debbie traveled to her mother’s hometown of Saigon to begin learning more about her family’s favorite pastime and this is where she discovered the innovative brewing technique used in the company’s signature single serving pour over bags. I also love this coffee for summer because it tastes great iced and already comes pre-made with cream and sugar in classic Vietnamese coffee style. It is also easy to make and can be done on the go as you don’t need a coffee maker, you just need to add the pre-filled filter to a glass of hot water for a fresh brew (you can then pour over ice). 2. Stoked Roasters Signature Series Blends

When it comes to top quality roasted green bean coffee, I am really liking Stoked Roasters out of Hood River, Oregon this summer. All of their beans are certified organic and are roasted on a custom 25 pound San Francisco roaster. They have six Signature Series Blends to choose from so you can switch up your style as often as you like. Personally, I recommend grabbing the Dawn Patrol, which is a tasty breakfast blend; First Track, which is a rich, full-bodied blend meant to get you up and going in the morning; and Double Overhead that lives up to its surf term name. It is a big, bold French Roast. To purchase Stoked Roasters online head here: https://www.stokedroasters.com/collections/signature-series-blends

3. Cafe Bustelo

Another fun summer coffee comes from the Latin coffee brand Cafe Bustelo. The dark-roasted, full-body coffee comes finely ground and can be enjoyed in a number of different ways, although most fans (myself included) like the classic cafecito and cafe con leche methods best. For the cafecito the trick is to stir a small amount of brewed coffee and sugar together while the rest of the pot is brewing and stirring it until it reaches a syrup like consistency. You then pour the rest of the brewed coffee slowly over the coffee and sugar mixture for a bold sweet concoction that can also easily be iced afterward — to not lose much of the flavor I like to mix it with ice in martini shaker to cool it before pouring it over ice. 4. AbbotsFord Road Signature Blends

It can be hard to get a well-blended coffee sometimes, but I love good coffee blends because they can have really unique flavor. AbbotsFord Road coffee company does three great signature blends that I am really enjoying this summer. Each blend is quite different from the other and I recommend trying all three. The Forza is a full-bodied blend with hints of hazelnuts, caramel, and chocolate. The Crema is smooth and very balanced and has butterscotch, malt, and nut flavors while the Vivo is delicious in the afternoon as it is fruity and sweet with cherry, honey and even toffee flavors. 5. Devoción

This Colombian coffee company sources its beans from farms in untamed parts of the country and pays fair-trade prices for them. Beans are dry milled in their Bogota factory before being quickly shipped via FedEx to the U.S. for roasting. The coffee tastes super fresh as a result. I also like the subscription coffee delivery program that sends you a two week supply of farm fresh Devoción coffee directly to your door every other week.

6. Quick Chek Kris Kringle

Kris Kringle flavored coffee in the summer? Well, for Christmas in July of course! The limited edition coffee is globally sourced and locally roasted and only released twice a year — for the winter festive season and in July. I just love the rich sweet flavor that is bursting with creamy vanilla, coconut, and hints of sweet cocoa. Enjoy it hot or over ice. It is sold in single-serving packages, by the bag, and in K-cups. https://quickchek.com/

7. Giamaica Caffe

One of Europe’s top coffees, Giamaica Caffe is roasted in Verona by Giani Frasi who roasts the beans for his brew by hand over an open flame. As a result, the beans are never over-roasted and always aromatic and subtle in their flavors. A couple of Giamaica Caffe flavors to try to include their Guatemala coffee, which has a delicate flavor and the Giovanni Erbisti 1947, which is a wonderful hand-picked blend of four different Arabica beans that are roasted individually then blended.  Caffe Giamaica products are available for online ordering here: http://www.cruredwoodcity.com/ cru-store/
