Staying at the Historic Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel, which played an inspirational role in Stephen King’s novel, “The Shining” is one of the top places to stay in Colorado. Opened in 1909, the Hotel has a rich history with stories of hauntings and famous guests. The hotel is clothed in mystery and magnificence with the beautiful architecture as many of the original buildings are still in use.
Staff and guests both say all the rooms in Stanley Hotel have experienced some rather strange events. Lights turning off and on by themselves, items being moved, even the sound of children laughing and running up and down the halls. Guests have even reported seeing Mr. and Mrs. Stanley themselves walking around their hotel.
Ms. Elizabeth Wilson, Stanley’s main housekeeper in the early days, was involved with an explosion from the hotel’s electrical system. She was shot down with both ankles broken in room 217. Though she wasn’t killed, at that time, guests of the room have reported receiving “extra” care, like housekeeping and unpacking, in the room since the 1950’s.
