The Oyster Race Combines Athleticism and Intelligence
Oyster The Race will be taking taking over the streets of Denver on August 24. Think of it as mix of the amazing race tripled with outrageous challenges, bike riding and running. Teams between three and six people will cover 10-30 miles criss-crossing the town using clues to search for the next ridiculously fun obstacle. The race unfolds one leg at a time. Participants take off at the starting area and are given a passport explaining the task at hand and instructions. Once a passport is completed the next one is handed out. Although the exact course is a tightly guarded secret until race day, past legs have included scavenger hunts around the city, devouring mystery food, beer pong and more, in addition to running, biking, paddling, and climbing. The race, born in Denver, was created by a competitive triathlete who was looking to pump up excitement in races.
There is also a half course option that covers between 10 to 15 miles for those dipping into the adventure race science slowly. The race begins at 8 a.m., with the Half Course option starting at 9 a.m. The registration cost is $100 for the full course and $85 for the half course.
The race beneifts Make-A-Wish of Colorado, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. “Make-A-Wish Colorado is celebrating 30 years of granting wishes this year and it could not have been possible without community support and events such as the Oyster,” said Patti Forsythe, director of events/promotions for Make-A-Wish Colorado. “We are grateful to have had their event expertise, enthusiasm and partnership for five years running. The Oyster is rapidly becoming one of the chapter’s most popular events.”
