Zeppelin Development Crushes Car To Announce Construction at TAXI
Most companies announce the start of a new project with a groundbreaking. But when Zeppelin Development starts on a new building, sticking to the norm is simply too boring. Which is why the team brought in a bulldozer last week to crush a rundown car with the words “Drive To Work” spray painted in yellow on it to announce their newest project: the DRIVE 2 office building at TAXI. It is a mixed-use development in downtown Denver’s River North (RiNo) neighborhood. The 60,000 square foot building is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014.
The point was to encourage people to bike work and change the automobile culture. “People connect on the street and we hope that we can create an urban culture that encourages people to made pedestrian connections in the open air,” said Kyle Zeppelin, who along with his father Mickey, have set a new standard for mixed-use development. “There is strong demand for ‘new generation’ workspaces, not just among small entrepreneurial companies, but among mid-size and large companies as well, and our team is committed to providing companies with the most advanced, productive and inspiring place to work in the entire Denver metro area,”
Drive 2 is a spinoff of Drive, another office space at TAXI that is fully leased. DRIVE 2 is already beginning to attract the interest of companies who want to break out of cubicle culture and offer a more creative workspace.
Some of the DRIVE 2 building’s features will include:
- Extensive skylights combined with glass floor panels that provide natural light through the core of the building and promote vertical connectivity.
- A “Democratic” format beyond any other office building in the region, with limited enclosed private offices at the perimeter; top floors devoted to small, dynamic firms that are a key to the culture of TAXI and an emphasis on providing a balance between larger, sophisticated companies that can provide opportunities for their small neighbors.
- Native landscape with water quality features.
- A 2,500 square foot rooftop conference center/idea space.
- A bike shop.
- Easy access to TAXI’s other on-site amenities including the highly acclaimed FUEL Café, refuel, Boxcar Coffee, Open Air Academy (an Early Childhood Education Center), TAXI Fitness, the TAXI train container lap pool and deck, community garden, Bike Share program, Outdoor Cinema and an on-site, high-end hair and nail salon.
TAXI is located in the heart of downtown Denver’s River North neighborhood (RiNo), which is now the largest arts district in the city. It is also within close proximity of The Source (an artisan culinary marketplace), Light Rail and is adjacent to the Platte River and bike path and park project.
Taxi is a 20-acre urban mixed-use site that has been transformed from a vacant taxicab dispatch center and tucking warehouse into a hub for businesses, living a school , community garden and restaurant, Fuel Cafe.
