Colorado Scholarships for College Students
Getting a scholarship is not a very easy thing to do, as most scholarships are generally aimed at students who put a certain degree of effort into getting them. It’s not particularly simple, as these various scholarships have equally varied requirements based on state, how much they offer, or what type of major you are going for. However, knowing what type of scholarships you have available to you makes the whole process a lot easier, which is why this article is going to cover a few major scholarships available to Colorado students. Keep in mind that Colorado students can get scholarships and grants besides these, especially if they are national: the following are simply grants and scholarships exclusively available to Colorado residents.
CollegeInvest Opportunity Scholarship
This is an easy lottery scholarship that you don’t have to really do anything for. Other than applying. By its nature of being a lottery scholarship, as long as you apply you have a chance to get some money for your education. It is open to all residents of Colorado, but applicants must be undergraduate students that attend an accredited Colorado university or college. There is no criteria besides this: the students who get the rewards are chosen at random, with 38 $1000 scholarships handed out each year. Granted, your chances of winning are pretty slim, but seeing as how you don’t have to do anything special to enter, it’s worth doing regardless.
Denver Scholarship Foundation
This foundation offers financial aid based on whether or not a student actually needs it. However, it is only for graduates of the Denver Public School System. That said, it offers a maximum monetary allowance of $5000 per academic year, which can be used in approximately 39 community colleges, vocational schools, or universities throughout Colorado. Naturally, this type of aid is only available for certain people that have certain living conditions, but it is still a viable option.
College Access Challenge Grant
This grant is for undergraduate students that have already qualified for the Pell Grant, but require even more financial assistance beyond that. However, students that wish to gain access to this grant must also complete the Education Cents financial education course in order to be eligible for it. The amount of money one can get from this grant varies depending on a number of factors, though the dominant one is how much the student actually needs. If you are a student with financial need in order to attend college, this is a great means of securing it, though you must, of course, qualify for the Pell Grant first. Then again, if you are a need-based student, chances are qualifying for that isn’t too much of a challenge.
CollegeInvest Service Scholarship
A bit different from the other CollegeInvest scholarship on this list, this scholarship is for undergraduate students who commit at least 40 hours of their time to community service that specifically focuses on at-risk children. It offers $6000 in aid, which is significantly higher than many other grants and scholarships. However, it does still have a pretty narrow window of eligibility, as students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled in an accredited Colorado college or university. Moreover, the winners each year are still selected randomly from the pool of all eligible applicants. Even so, it’s another thing a student can apply for in order to maximize their chances of getting aid.
CCHS/CR Volunteerism/Community Service Scholarship
This scholarship awards $1250 to eligible students that attend an undergraduate program at an accredited state university or college. Fourteen scholarships are awarded annually, with the selection criteria revolving mostly around community service. Of course, this means one has to put more effort into acquiring this scholarship, but at the same time there’s a lot less competition for it, as there aren’t as many students out there eligible to receive it. This gives you a significantly higher chance of getting this scholarship, provided you put the work into getting it.
Help with Essay Submissions
Most scholarship submissions require you to write an essay, which can be a taxing and undesirable task. This is especially true if you are making submissions to a wide variety of scholarships. If you need help getting some of these essays out of the way, consider enlisting the services of an essay writing service with professional authors. These online services are quite straightforward: you pay the money, and they’ll write the essay. Of course, this generally includes free revisions ad infinitum if need be, so you don’t have to worry about paying for a subpar product.
Granted, if you are looking for need-based scholarships, you probably don’t have a lot of money to spare, but paying away just one essay can still take a lot of stress off of one’s shoulders, so it is worth taking into consideration.
