We catch up with Adonis Crash Boom in this Q&A.

Q: How did you get your start?

A: As a child, I learned gymnastics in a community center in the Bronx, called Roberto Clemente State Park, a place that didn’t have the best equipment but was a place I could learn basic gymnastic fundamentals.

But my dancing career didn’t start until after I got into high school, which is where I led John F. Kennedy to the schools first championship. I won Gold in all 7 Events.

Even with these accomplishments, I still couldn’t get into the school I wanted. Plus, my mother lost her job and the stress level was going threw the roof. Even with all of this, I never stopped going to the community center because I needed a place to express all of my emotions.

I also started to coach because I needed some money and that’s when it hit me: Why don’t I just grab some gymnast’s from my high school and head out to 42nd Street and perform? The rest is history.

Q: What is your style of break dance?

A: I have more of an urban Acro Dance style. It’s mixed with gymnastics, break dancing, lite feet ( A style of dance originated in Harlem and is also really popular in the Bronx) and Hip Hop with a little touch of Latin Flavor to make a style I like to call Expression.

Q: Why should be people come check out Union Square?

A: Union Square is an amazing place for any tourist or local to come and enjoy some New York Culture because it’s the cafeteria of creativity. There are so many different diverse personalities as well as talent on the square, from dancers, chess players, skateboarders, soccer matches and even rap cyphers. ANYONE can fit in here.

Q: What’s Next for you?

A: I can only hope I move further in my life from where I am now. I have just been offered a role in an upcoming pilot and I may head to Europe this fall and host a few parties in a few commercial clubs. I might even start making music. Just believing and putting my all into everything I do will push me closer to some of the people who inspire me, such as Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Terrance Howard.

Q: What keeps you going?

A: I can only keep pushing and never stop this energy I feel in me. As days fly past, I can’t help but to want to succeed so I can show others a different way of seeing and living life. I hope my positive and motivational energy rubs of on others and hopefully they witness me become the best version of myself.
