Catch Olympic Fever and the Holiday Spirit at Copper
The 2013/2014 winter season is underway at Copper Mountain. After an exciting early season sendoff for the U.S. Alpine Ski Team on their road to the 2014 Winter Olympics, the spotlight has now shifted to the U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Olympic preparations. December is the perfect time to catch a glimpse of Olympic hopefuls training and competing at Copper Mountain. Of course, there is still plenty to celebrate in November.
Woodward Remix Weekend, Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov. 29 – Dec 1, 2013
The Woodward at Copper Barn is all dressed up and ready for the ball following a half-million dollar remodel, completed this past summer. Woodward Remix Weekend includes free public sessions for all guests, all weekend long. The U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding teams will be on hand, as will pro-BMX riders Red Bull’s Anthony Napolitan and X Games Gold medalist Zack Warden, in addition to Red Bull pro skateboarders Tom Schaar and Curren Caples and Volcom’s Louie Lopez for demos and athlete meet-and-greets. The Annual GoPro Yam Jam is the perfect way to work off that third (maybe even fourth) helping of Thanksgiving turkey with Woodward at Copper’s progressive rails on Friday, Nov. 29.
North Face Park and Pipe Open, December 6 – 8, 2013
The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series returns to Copper Mountain’s Main Vein Superpipe Dec. 6 – 8. As one of the only open-format event series, amateurs have the opportunity to compete alongside top pros at this action packed event. This year’s stakes are especially high, as the event also will serve as a last-chance qualifier heading into the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix series. The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix is the Olympic qualification series for freeskiing athletes in the U.S., and will ultimately determine which athletes will compete for the U.S. Olympic Freeskiing team at the Sochi Winter Olympics in February. Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Dec. 16-22, is the last final Olympic qualifying opportunity in Colorado for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Sprint U.S. Grand Prix, December 16 – 22, 2013
Copper Mountain kicks off the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix series, a U.S. Olympic team selection event, Dec. 19 – 22. In 2012, Copper hosted over 500 athletes from 13 countries and the stakes will be even higher in 2013, with a potential Olympic bid on the line. Both slopestyle and halfpipe disciples with be featured at Copper Mountain before making their world debut in February in Russia. Athletes will be throwing their biggest and best tricks in the last Colorado qualifier before Sochi. Top athletes from all over the world are expected to compete giving spectators a chance to watch and rub elbows with the sport’s next big stars. New this season guests can watch the high-flying action of both Snowboarding and Freeskiing in Copper’s Main Vein Superpipe under the lights on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20 – 21.
