Stand out from the crowd in the lift line with Goggle Graffiti- colorful tags that add a bright pop of personalized color to your goggles. Goggle tags are not only great for keeping track of your gear but also help promote a brand or company for easy promotion on mountain if you opt for an even more personalized option. Why jazz it up? Check out the Q&A with the founder below to learn how the idea originated and has since taken off.
Q: How did the idea for “Goggle Graffiti” come to be?
I am a lifelong skier and now a mother of two skiing sons. When I was growing up, we collected ski pins from the different mountains where we skied and wore them on our jackets. Even though pins are still collected, they aren’t really worn on the slopes anymore. With 90% of skiers now wearing helmets & goggles, I noticed many were putting stickers on their helmets and thought the goggle strap would be a perfect place to accessorize and you could change them out unlike permanent stickers. This goggle accessory is the perfect souvenir to collect from different mountains or can be used to advertise a business, ski club etc.
Q: What makes you all different from others in this business?
Goggle Graffiti is different than other collectible souvenirs because the SNOW ID graffiti tag actually serves a purpose other than just being a fun accessory or souvenir. SNOW ID keeps your emergency contact information easily accessible and visible to ski patrol should an accident happen on the slopes.
Q: Tell us about your background. Have you owned a business before?
I am an entrepreneur at heart but have been too busy in the past as a political fundraiser and then as a conference planner in an office at The University of Texas at Austin to step out and take the risk of launching a new product. I have not owned a business before but am enjoying every minute of this creative, challenging process.
Q: What is the biggest challenge of running the business?
The biggest challenge was figuring out how to actually start and the hours upon hours spent reading and researching how to take that first step. It continues to be challenging because when you are a small start up with limited funds you have to do EVERTYHING yourself from the accounting, business plan, prototype development, sales, marketing, working trade shows, social media etc.
Q: And biggest reward?
It has been rewarding to feel the satisfaction and validation when we receive a call from a mountain based candy store saying the kids love the product or when a chain like Christy Sports actually gives us a shot and then re-orders. It is also rewarding to have my best friend from college, Elizabeth Swallow, be with me in this venture.
Q: What is something readers would be surprised to know about you or your business?
Readers may be surprised to know that I grew up in a very small town in east Texas instead of in a mountain state.
