How To Make Sure You Have Everything You Need While Being On A Trip With Your RV

Everyone loves to look forward to their holidays. They can be anything from the sun, sea and sand to outdoor activities and sports. When people own an RV, they can enjoy both the mobility and the comfort that it provides. Folk can go where they want, stop when they want and even stay on specially designated sites.

It’s one thing to prepare for a stay in a hotel, but another for a week in an  RV. There are lots of practical things to bring for both indoors and outdoors. If something essential is missed, it could spoil the holiday. We will now take a guided tour around all the key things you need to include for your vacation.

Prepare The RV

Sit down and write a packing list, and also plan your route. Then assess your RV to ensure it’s ready to travel. Check the tyres for their tread and air pressure. Make sure the oil and brake fluid levels are ok, alongside the water levels for the windshield.

The internet, fortunately, provides a rich resource for people who have holidays ahead. If you want to be prepared, check out the specialist sites that can advise on RV generators, plugs and outlets. They also cover such things as fire safety, and what to expect from campgrounds.

Some of the practical items you’ll require are drain tubes and sewage chemicals, plus jack pads for the RV’s feet to go on. Bring an air pressure gauge and a jack for changing the tyres. You’ll need rope, bungee cords and a roadside emergency kit. Take some spare fluids for the RV, a fire extinguisher and a hose and toolkit. Also consider such electrical items as battery chargers, extension leads and adapters. Wheel chocks will be needed to keep the RV securely in place. Simple blocks of wood will suffice for this purpose.

Stock Up The Kitchen

This may contain everything from coffee machines and toasters down to food, drink and trash sacks. It may be easier to use paper plates and plastic cutlery alongside your pots and pans. If you plan the meals, it will be easier to be economical with your provisions. Don’t forget your bottle and can openers too!

You may choose to keep your first aid kit in the kitchen. This should include all the usual items such as prescription medicines, bite and sun creams, and band-aids and bandages.

Prepare For Outdoors

You may need UV protection including hats, sunglasses and sunblock. Bring tarps to shield you from all weathers. If the elements are not so kind, make sure you have rainwear and warm coats. If you’re going to sit outside, consider bringing wood for a campfire, and some camping chairs. Citronella candles are very effective at keeping mosquitoes away.

As regards leisure, some people bring bikes, frisbees and other sports equipment. If it rains, however, make sure there are things to keep everyone happy indoors.

If you plan to do some camping while you’re away, write on your list such things as tents, backpacks and sleeping bags. You’ll also need decent hiking boots, water bottles and a camping stove.

Prepare The Bedroom And Bathroom

You’ll need a full set of bedding for each person. Keep all your clothes here, including shoes, coats and swimwear if appropriate. The bathroom will need to hold your towels and toiletries. Don’t forget to bring practical things like antibacterial wipes, lip balm and hand sanitiser.

A trash can will be essential, and a stock of toilet paper. Make sure that it will be suitable for the RV’s septic system, as you won’t want any blockages while you’re away.

Assemble The Cleaning Materials

As you won’t have room service, you’ll need a full stock of supplies! They should include rubber gloves, cleaning agents and clothes. Bring along a vacuum cleaner, broom and brush and dustpan. Disinfectant is important, alongside having rolls of paper towels and a set of sponges.

If you plan to bring a pet with you, it will need more than its bedding and food. Bring a dog lead if applicable, some toys and all you need to clean up after it.

Miscellaneous Items

They may reflect your individual preferences, but most people will want to remember their phone chargers. Many folk benefit from taking things like compasses and pocket knives too.

It’s a great feeling when it all comes together: the RV is ready, the equipment and supplies are on board, and everyone is set to go. All that awaits you now is the exciting journey, and fun at the destination.
