Ready for any situation travel

When you travel wide and far, you soon realize that anything can happen. That is part of the reason traveling is so exciting. Fortunately, normally, you end up having fantastic or at least interesting experiences. But, now and again, things go wrong.

Usually, everything works out fine, in the end. With good preparation, you can greatly increase the chances of that being the case. Here are some things you can pack to help you to be prepared for the unexpected.

A CB radio

Now, I understand that many of you will be sitting there wondering why I am recommending that you pack a Midland 75 822 CB radio, or two if you are traveling with a companion.

I promise you that I have not gone crazy. In many parts of the world, it is a really good idea to do so. In particular in places where they are still widely used.

If there is trouble, often, you can glean quite a bit of information by listening in. Because they only have a range of a few miles what you learn will be very applicable to the place you are staying. It is also possible to use them to ask local people for advice. As well as stay in touch with your travel companion should the mobile network become overwhelmed or go down. Something that can happen during a natural disaster or civil unrest.

An alternative power source

It is worth investing in a good power pack. If you get stranded at an airport for a couple of days, you will be glad that you can still use your phone.

You may also want to consider carrying a folding solar panel unit. This video review does a pretty good job of showcasing what is available and providing you with advice to help you to choose the right one for you.

Paper versions of important documents

These days, most of us keep all of our vital information on our phones. Provided you keep it all secure, this works OK. That is until the battery goes dead or you break your phone. Or, worse, it is stolen. Then, you can be stuck.

That is why it is a particularly good idea to have a paper copy of your important contact details. As well as your passport and any visas. To work out what needs to be copied or kept in a written form think about what you will need to have to hand to sort out emergencies. For example, having your luggage stolen, falling sick, or losing one of your important documents. That will enable you to make sure you do not miss anything.

Be careful with these documents. They will include extremely sensitive personal information. So, be sure to keep them on your person. By all means, carry your normal wallet or bag but consider buying a travel belt or something similar, like the ones reviewed here. You are looking for something that will enable you to carry a spare card, some cash, and a copy of your emergency documentation that you can fold up. You might also want to add a mini phone with a spare sim. Just so you can make a phone call if you can’t use your normal mobile, for some reason.
