Ways to Kill Boredom During Your Travels
Traveling is inevitable for everyone. You might travel for work daily, or perhaps you travel only for leisure when you want to go on vacation. No matter which category you fall in, for many people the time spent waiting to arrive at their destination is boring and repetitive. But it doesn’t have to be like this and there are some things you can do to speed up the passage of time on long trips.
Catch Up on Work
Depending on your means of travel, you can spend some time on your trip catching up on work. Trains and planes are especially useful for this, as they are generally steady and give you some space to work. You can use this time to respond to emails, polish up a presentation you’ll be doing or get some other part of your job done. This time is especially good for boring administrative tasks because there’s nothing else you can do to procrastinate, you just have to be there and do it.
Play Some Games
There’s no better pastime than something that was designed to pass the time – games. There are hundreds of thousands of games you can download to your mobile phone or laptop and play while you’re traveling. You can choose Vegas style slots on mobile or laid-back idle farming games, whichever suits your taste and will bring you some enjoyment on the way. If you have a sharable console like a switch, you can also play together with a travel partner. And if you want to go old school, bust out a deck of cards and remember what your grandma taught you.
Strike Up a Conversation
There are so many different people that you can meet while you’re traveling, and they all have some stories to tell. If you want to have a memorable experience, strike up a conversation with the person in your vicinity or the seat next to you. Remember not to be pushy and if you see that they don’t want to talk – leave them be and find someone else, or employ another method of killing time and boredom. If they do want to talk, some great conversation starters are about where they’re from, the food they like, and places in the world. Avoid getting political!
Watch a Movie or a Show
Have a movie that you’ve been putting off watching because it never really felt like the right time? Now’s the time. You have nothing else to do. Make sure that if you’re going to be on a plane, on the tube, or generally anywhere without good wifi, you’ll want to download it and play it locally to have a smooth viewing experience.
If all else fails, you can always just put on some good music, stare out into the distance through a window, and think about life. Perhaps bring along a notebook and write your thoughts down – these are often the moments when inspiration strikes and you might get some serious brilliant ideas! Before you know it, you’ll be at your destination, wishing that a journey lasted just a little bit longer.
