Wolf Creek Gears up For Winter Season
Wolf Creek Ski Area started prepping for a whirlwind week today. The week kicked off by celebrating Charles Elliot, a pioneer of American skiing, who is also one of the founders of Wolf Creek Ski Area. He is credited with bringing skiing to the San Juan Mountains in 1934. He has skied every year since, except for four years during World War II when he was serving in the military. He is a lifetime member of the National Ski Patrol and he was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2011.
Tomorrow the celebrations continue as more ski legends take the slopes. The US Freestyle Mogul Team, led by Olympic champion Hannah Kearney and Olympic bronze medalist Bryon Wilson, will be practicing on the Most Snow in Colorado through November 26th. They’ll take the day off from the slopes on Saturday the 23rd, when the official National Team will be announced at the Pagosa Springs Resort and Spa.
Watch the athletes Wednesday the 20th and Sunday the 24th. Lift tickets will be sold for $38 for adults and $22 for seniors and children.
And on Saturday, November 23rd, Wolf Creek Ski Area will host the 2nd Annual Wolf Creek Ski Mountaineering Race beginning at 8am.
