What better way to find out the inside scoop of what to do and see in Louisville, Kentucky than from the locals. I scouted the town to find out some of the top spots that deliver a true Louisville experience. And off I went!

This stretch of road, in the Highlands neighborhood, is home to several local restaurants, unique shops, and bars. The three-mile stretch of road includes culinary delights from that include Indian, Italian, Argentine, Brewpubs and  Irish Pubs. Some places not to miss:

For Food: Emma’s Lou’s Cafe & Vintage Boutique where everything is homemade. Enjoy everything from soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts served inside a 100 year old home decked with vintage decor. Try the Tuscan Tomato Soup and if you have room… the Chocolate Peanut Butter Gooey Cake.

To Shop: Dot Fox Clothing Culture where the music of local bands blasts across the speakers to greet you. Inside you will find everything from trendy accessories and unique styled shirts and t-shirts. Lines include J Shoes, Noo Works and Tulle.

To Laugh: Comedy Caravan With tickets cheaper than a night at the movies  (Average ticket is $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends) you can expect a good belly laugh or quite a few! There’s a full bar but no drink minimum. If you are America’s next top comic- check out amateur night on Sunday.

2. Chad Balster (Owns Chad Balster Glass) “Check out the parks built by Frank Olmsted. On Thursday nights visitors should walk by Olmsted  Park. There is a chance you will see fire troops performing.

Frank Olmsted, who is also famous for building City Park in the Big Apple is known as the “Father of American Landscape Architecture.” For well over 100 years, the 120 parks designed by Olmsted have been a point of pride for Louisville. So grab your bike or a picnic, maybe even both, and get outside!

3. Elizabeth Kizito (Owns Kizito Cookies) “Come see me of course! We make the best chocolate chip cookies that are sold across town!” Kizito Cookies are one of the many locals businesses in Louisville. This is a town the supports local first! Born in Uganda, Elizabeth, moved to America to be an entrepreneur in 1975.  Get ready for 12 flavors of cookies along with homemade biscotti, granola and muffins.

Carri’s Catch: Stroll off the roads on Bardstown Road and along tree lined sidewalks where you will see some magnificent homes that are more than 100 years old. It is the south where front porches are wide and finished with rocking chairs or front porch swings.
